Storage Unit

TIPS

We’ve all made the mistake of not keeping the appliances open so air can circulate – and then smelled the aftermath. Yuck! To avoid gross smells and to keep your belongings as fresh and clean as possible, here are some storage unit tips to consider.

Who Let the Plastic Out?

Hopefully, that wasn’t you! Aside from being bad for the environment, covering your belongings in a plastic wrap will only do harm. Because plastic isn’t breathable, it will trap in moisture and that will leave that musty smell nobody likes, and damage the furniture.

Instead of plastic, use a cloth to cover belongings.

Speaking of Moisture

Eugene gets enough rain and moisture just being Eugene. You don’t need to add to that. Make sure all items are fully drained of excess water and fully dried off. Common items that need some extra help to get dry are:

  • Kids outdoors toys
  • Washing machine
  • Dishwasher
  • Shower curtains
  • Outdoor furniture
  • Refrigerators

How To Utilize Your Space

  • Store blankets and towels in dishwashers, dryers, washing machines, and drawers.
  • Store larger, heavy items on the ground level.
  • Make sure furniture goes in first.
  • Use uniform boxes or tubs.
  • Leave items you might need often in the front for easy access.
  • Hang up nylon stockings with baking soda in them to keep moisture and odor down.

Please Leave These Items Out of Your Storage Unit

  • Combustibles
  • Gasoline
  • Food
  • E.T.
